Carbon ion radiotherapy for breast cancer

Indications

Carbon ion radiotherapy for early stage breast cancer is being performed in 2 clinical studies. At present, only Japanese patients can be enrolled into these clinical studies. Because all patients who receive carbon ion radiotherapy for breast cancer are required regular examinations up to 10 years after the treatment.

Carbon ion radiotherapy is performed for breast cancer in the following cases. Whether a patient can receive carbon ion radiotherapy is decided by the attending physician after he or she thoroughly reviews the examination and test results. Further information will be provided by the attending physician.

Disease
1Metastatic lung tumors (oligometastatic lung tumors, 3 or fewer)
2Metastatic liver tumors (oligometastatic liver tumors, 3 or fewer)
3Metastatic lymph nodes (small number of metastases to lymph nodes, generally localized to 1 lymph node area)
